Welcome to class!
My best teachers never made class boring. They engaged me, introduced fresh and varied perspectives, challenged me to develop different skills, and encouraged me to pursue my passions and interests . As a teacher, I strive to do the same for my students. For the past ten years, I have developed and honed methods of teaching, instruction, and activities, implemented inside and outside of the classroom, that are designed to be fun and foster the growth and maturation of the whole self. This website is a window into what we do in and out of the classroom!
Eric knows that students are constantly developing. Effective teaching is neither static nor strives for the status quo. Effective teachers challenge students to go one step further just as teachers challenge their own self to grow. He frequently assesses and reassesses his own teaching methods, styles, and activities, keeping an open and active mind to ways in which he can hone his own craft to enrich the student learning experience.
In addition to working with students in the classroom, Eric seeks to forge strong relationships with students outside the classroom. He is an avid outdoorsman who leads student groups on week-long backpacking trips into the backcountry of New Mexico. He works with children on the athletic field as a coach, serving as a head coach at the middle school and high school levels. He believes it is valuable when students work as members of a team towards a common goal, for he has witnessed the friendships and comradery that has developed in camping groups, classrooms, and sports teams he has led.
Eric has worked in a variety of teaching roles in the United States and abroad. He has taught United States history to high school students at a boarding school in Massachusetts, English as a Second Language in Taiwan, and, presently, Humanities to middle school students in Texas.
